Spring Harvest Season Approaches

March is exciting for tea people as the harvest season is right around the corner. For those of you who are new to the specialty tea industry, it’s important to know that the best teas are primarily harvested in the spring. Most tea companies will purchase in spring and early summer for the whole year.

Weather conditions such as late frosts, draught and other anomalies can affect production, outturn and flavor profiles. Misty mornings are great, causing the leaves to struggle just enough to enhance their taste, but if too chilly for too long the harvest can be delayed.

This not only accounts for harvest delays, but also for year-to-year taste differences. Dealing with natural products is a bit of a roller coaster, but well worth the ride. Knowing this can help you better inform your customers and manage their expectation. Get those tasting cups ready so you can sample new harvests as well and convey the subtle changes to your clients!
