Welcoming Customers with a 30-Second Tour

Your wall of tea can be intimidating - a 30 second tour will help!

One very good practice for any small business is employing a little strategy when greeting an incoming customer. Whether your shop is a pop-up table at a winter market or physical shop with all the bells and whistles, train your team to offer a 30 second tour. The tour will help the guest navigate the space so they can easily find what is of interest and dispel any feelings of overwhelm.

Warmly greeting customers makes them feel welcome and affirms that your staff is approachable. Once welcomed into your space, a quick, easy-to-absorb tour will provide guidance to the guest and minimize frustration when finding what they seek.

Let the mini tour include your various tea sections, where tea wares can be found, and where you have specials and easy gift bundles. Be sure to mention where your staff will be waiting should they have any questions.

It can also be helpful to briefly mention any popular items when pointing out a product section. “Our green tea section is in the right corner there. The most popular green tea is our Citrus Mint Green – so refreshing!” If your shop is a mere table or two at a holiday fair, you can easily do the same by quickly listing various options and interjecting a little personality: “Hi! Welcome! We have herbal teas here, Earl Grey and breakfast teas to your right, and our yummy chai blends are in this section. My favorite right now is Rooibos Vanilla Chai! So delicious and cozy! Do you like chai?” Customers are always curious about the seller’s favorites and with such an approach, you’ve opened the door for the customer to share their preferences. The conversation can easily be expanded from there!

Remember that keeping the tour short and concise will prevent data overload, which most people experience during the hectic holiday season. Once they hear something of interest, being brief can spur questions and interest while the information is fresh. Happy selling!
